About the event

Affix completion peer review

This online peer review session is invite only allowing you to meet the GOC CPD requirements to be amongst the first to achieve the award of Optometric Practice Educator - entitling you to use our first education affix - OptPE. The peer review session is worth three interactive CPD points.

This new affix recognises the dedication, expertise, and commitment of supervisors who nurture the next generation of optometrists.

Since you have already completed the new training, you now just need to document and submit your reflections on the supervisory experience in the run-up to the event and participate in this peer review at the AGM. On completion, you will be awarded the OptPE affix, with a commemorative certificate.

At the session, you will in participate in a small virtual group to review three cases. The discussion will help qualified optometrist supervisors improve their supervision skills by discussing cases that are based on real practice with a small group of fellow peers. Discussing various approaches among peers stimulates interest and broadens perspectives as different practitioners may approach clinical and ethical problems in different ways.

The introduction session will be conducted by a lead facilitator and each small group will be led by an experienced facilitator. The cases are:

  • New supervisor dilemma
  • Missed clinical findings
  • Helping an anxious trainee
